My son, Familiar with the exploits of great Americans like Walter Ehlers (Big Red1) MOH recipient and John Basilone of the Marines as well as having a sense of duty to some of his family, his country and all (including many of you) who have served makes his first visit to the USMC recruiting office today. Proud Papa will be in tow. We'll likely also make appointments to talk to the Army and Air Force. He is undecided between the USMC, US Army (he wants to be a Ranger) or USAF Para Rescue.
This is big stuff for us. He is forgoing an opportunity to play college football for this so I know he is serious. You should all feel safer and better knowing a very fine young man has such a sense of duty. I know he will serve us all well. |

Munny,
That is terrific news. I recommend the Rangers. It's a tough job and those that make it are some of the best the Army has to offer.
Congrats to you and your son. In my eyes he is already a hero....... |

When it comes to the men and women that serve us in the military I am so appreciative of thier character and thier familes that support them and live through it with them.
I am glad we have great Americans like your son that show us the courage and honor they possess as well as the countless other qualities like discipline etc etc.
Best of luck!
Homey. |

Thanks for the words of support. The visit was great. ASVAB scores qualified him for about any MOS he wants which is fantastic news. His first choice is going to be Recon but that is a tough assignment to get. He was happy though that he has intel to fall back on. Petty diverse interests!!!
He is pretty sure it will be the Marines but he is dissappointed that due to cutbacks by some unnamed idiot politicians he won't be able to ship out until November. Good news too, since he has family that served in the Marines at Paris Island he will get a choice to go to there or San Diego.
Hmmmm??? Sand fleas and swamps or San Diego? Hmmmm... tough call.... and he is interested in Intel? oh boy!!! |

Congrats Munny!
Marines are a tough bunch -special forces in its own right! Army Rangers, a lot of WWII history there! Air Force Para Rescue is no joke, and intense too!
Hmmm, some tough choices. |

Hi Munny!
Congrats to your son. Although I have served for more than a decade in the German forces I would never recommend my children (if I would have some) to join the military.
Napoleon Bonaparte once said: Nobody sells his soul, but men fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon.
But I think he is mature enough to make the right decision and I wish him all the best. I have served together with US forces but I am not familar in detail with the US military.
I wouldn't recommend a pure infantry career. Not because of the danger but when you have to leave the forces you have nothing left than your pride. He should look for a deployment that includes a good education combined with a tough job. For example: Signal Para Soldier or like he already considered: Para rescue.
Just my 2 inflated (ancient greek) Euro-Cents.
All the best to you and your son from War in Afghanistan by

| Munny, what a proud moment. Firstly for gunning towards being a Ranger and actually putting words into action. Whatever his choice, we all hope he finds his path and his way back home! |
